GORDON HENRY
Gordon Henry is an enrolled member/citizen of the White Earth Anishinaabe Nation in Minnesota. He is the Audrey and John C. Leslie Endowed Chair in American Indian Literature at Michigan State University. He serves as Senior Editor of the American Indian Studies Series (series sub-imprints Mukwa Enewed and Sovereign Traces) at Michigan State University Press. In 2018, 2020 and 2022, he was also appointed as Gordon Russell Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College. Professor Henry is the co-editor of Stories through Theories/ Theories through Stories: North American Indian Writing, Storytelling and Critique (2009), Enduring Critical Poses: The Legacy and Life of Anishinaabe Literature and Letters (2021), Not(Just) (an)other (2018), Afterlives of Indigenous Archives (2019) and The Legacy and Life of Anishinaabe Literature and Letters (2021). He served as regional consultant and contributor to When the Light of the World was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through, published in 2020. As for his creative writing, in 1995 he received an American Book Award for his novel the Light People. In 2007, he published a mixed-genre collection titled The Failure of Certain Charms, with Salt Publishing, out of the U.K. His writing has appeared in journals and anthologies, like Living Nations, Living Words (2021), and in translation in Spain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the U.K. and Germany. His poetry collection Spirit Matters: White Clay, Red Exits, Distant Others came out in June of 2022.
