DENISA ALEXANDRA MIRCEA

Denisa Alexandra Mircea is a PhD candidate at the Department of English and German Philology of the University of Zaragoza. She obtained a degree in English Studies from the University of Zaragoza in 2023. The following year, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary Education, for which she wrote her master’s thesis entitled “To ACT or not to Act: Drama as a Trigger of the Oral Production and an Awareness-raising Weapon for Bullying”. The thesis explored the use of drama and drama techniques in the EFL classroom, focusing on their potential to foster oral production while raising awareness of bullying.

Denisa is currently developing her doctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Claus-Peter Neumann, examining the different formal strategies employed by playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins to prompt audiences to confront their (sub)conscious prejudices towards African Americans and ultimately foster an ethical encounter. Her main research interests lie in African American theatre, Blackness, and the ethics of care.
